The project

Immunization is one of the greatest biomedical and public health success stories of the 20th century and is estimated by the World Health Organization (WHO) to save 1 to 3 million lives worldwide every year. Yet, suboptimal uptake of recommended immunizations has increased over the past two decades and has resulted in the re‐emergence of infectious diseases such as measles on the European continent.
Infectious diseases have no concept of borders!! Close collaboration and coordination at EU level is critical to prevent cross-border health threats and epidemics.

EU-JAV brings together the European Commission, health ministries, international policymakers and organisations, institutes, universities from 20 countries and a wide range of stakeholders, including civil society and manufacturers’ representatives, working on vaccination policy and health services.
Through its core mission of delivering and sharing concrete tools for stronger national responses to vaccination challenges, the EU‐JAV aims at spurring long‐lasting European cooperation against vaccine‐preventable diseases and therefore improve population health. • A sustainable mechanism of cooperation and communication between EU Members states and non‐EU EU‐JAV consortium member countries, for the implementation of best practices on vaccine policy
• A strengthenend interaction of Immunization Information Systems in Europe in order to increase vaccine surveillance capabilities
• Mechanisms of vaccine forecasting, supply and stocks management and improved preparedness
• Tools and methods for vaccine research priority-setting and mechanisms to increase cooperation in vaccine/vaccination research and research funding programmes among member states
• Best practices and interventions to improve confidence in vaccines
• An efficient dissemination of activities and outcomes of the project contributing to the sustainability of its results through the creation of a European platform called the Vaccine Network composed of the Member States Committee and the Stakeholders Forum.
